Green energy from a growing ecological problem — 9.5% per year

River Blueprint is developing a circular biogas plant in Ghana that converts invasive aquatic plants into electricity, organic fertilizers, and carbon credits. Three contractual revenue streams. Proven technology. A bond with a 9.5% annual coupon rate, quarterly payments, and investment insurance from the Dutch State.

The problem

Lake Volta is becoming structurally overgrown.

Invasive aquatic plants are spreading rapidly across Lake Volta. The ecological and economic consequences are significant: disruption of the ecosystem, blockage of hydroelectric power plants, and increased methane emissions from decaying biomass. Existing control methods are costly, temporary, and not operationally scalable.

“There was no definitive solution to the invasive water pest. Until now

Our solution in 4 steps

What is waste to another…
… is a raw material for us.

What is waste to others is a raw material to us. In four steps, we transform a growing problem into energy, bio-fertilizer, and impact.

Harvesting

Invasive aquatic plants are removed from Lake Volta daily. The biomass is immediately transported for processing, ensuring it does not return to the ecosystem.

Fermentation

In closed reactors, biomass is processed via anaerobic digestion. This produces biogas, which is used for energy production.

Producing energy

The biogas is converted into green electricity for Ghana’s national electricity grid.

Valorizing residual streams

After fermentation, valuable nutrients remain. These are processed into organic NPK fertilizer for the agricultural sector. In addition, CO₂ reduction is achieved, which can be converted into carbon credits.

Impact

From a growing problem to global impact

What starts as a local environmental problem grows into a scalable solution with global impact. With measurable results such as sustainable energy, CO₂ reduction, and ecosystem restoration, we show how ecology and economy come together.

1.

Inputs per day

  • 120 ton

fresh aquatic plants — harvested, ground, stored in storage tanks

2.

Process

  • Vergister

Fully automatically fed from storage tanks. Anaerobic digestion.

  • 25.000 m³

    biogas

  • 90 ton

    digestate

3.

Output per day

  • 48 MWh

    green power — from biogas

  • 11,6 ton

organic NPK fertilizer — filtered, dried, pressed

  • 155 ton

    CO₂e avoided — carbon-negative process

Investing in impact

The raw material grows by itself
The yield follows afterwards

River Blueprint combines ecological impact with a strong, scalable business model. The raw material is free. The impact is global. The return is tangible.
